A FOND (AND FUNNY) FAREWELL
Michigan has lost quite a number of theaterfolk over the years who have wandered east to New York, southwest to Chicago and way out west to Los Angeles seeking their fame and fortune. Some end up with successful careers, while others discover they were meant for other fields of employment.
It's impossible to predict who will find work in film, TV or the stage and who won't, of course, since there are so many factors that enter into the equation. But I have one prediction I'm very comfortable with - and it's this: Jaime Moyer will soon become a household name.
Yes, Southeast Michigan's funniest lady is leaving home next week to sample the opportunities in LA. Although she'll be greatly missed by both the improv and theater communities (as well as by her legions of adoring fans), this really IS the best time for her to pursue her dreams. In Detroit, she's at the top of her game - every performance she's given over the past several years has been a gem, so what other hills are here for her to conquer?
Not many. And since she LOVES a challenge, the next logical step is to head west. And I bet it won't take long for the powers-that-be in Hollywood to discover what we here in Michigan already know.
So although I'll miss seeing her on stage - and having her as one of my co-hosts of The Wilde Awards next year - I wish her only the best. And as she said last night at her Planet Ant send off, if she doesn't like it, she can always come back.
And she'd be welcomed with open arms!
Good luck, Jaime!
